ประเทศไทยมีสภาพทางภูมิศาสตร์ที่หลากหลาย ภาคเหนือประกอบด้วยเทือกเขาจำนวนมาก จุดที่สูงที่สุด คือ ดอยอินทนนท์ (2,576 เมตร) ในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือเป็นที่ราบสูงโคราชติดกับแม่น้ำโขงทางด้านตะวันออก ภาคกลางเป็นที่ราบลุ่มแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ซึ่งสายน้ำไหลลงสู่อ่าวไทย ภาคใต้มีจุดที่แคบลง ณ คอคอดกระแล้วขยายใหญ่เป็นคาบสมุทรมลายู
เมื่อเปรียบเทียบพื้นที่ของประเทศไทย กับ ประเทศอื่น จะได้ดังนี้
ประเทศพม่า ใหญ่กว่าประเทศไทยประมาณ 1.3 เท่า
ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย ใหญ่กว่าประมาณ 3.7 เท่า
ประเทศอินเดีย ใหญ่กว่าประมาณ 6.4 เท่า
ประเทศจีน และ สหรัฐอเมริกา ใหญ่กว่าประมาณ 19 เท่า
ประเทศรัสเซีย ใหญ่กว่าประมาณ 33 เท่า
ขนาดใกล้เคียงกับ ประเทศฝรั่งเศส ประเทศสวีเดน และ ประเทศสเปน
วันที่ 26 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2547 ได้มีเหตุการณ์คลื่นสึนามิเกิดขึ้นก่อความเสียหายในเขตภาคใต้ของประเทศไทย
ภูมิอากาศ
ภูมิอากาศของไทยเป็นแบบเขตร้อน อากาศร้อนที่สุดในเดือนเมษายน-พฤษภาคม โดยจะมีฝนตกและเมฆมากจากลมมรสุมตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ในช่วงกลางเดือนพฤษภาคม-เดือนตุลาคม ส่วนในเดือนพฤศจิกายนถึงกลางเดือนมีนาคม อากาศแห้ง และหนาวเย็นจากลมมรสุมตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ยกเว้นภาคใต้ที่มีอากาศร้อนชื้นตลอดทั้งปี
